Y Seren Goch
The Socialist-Republican paper of Wales
Y Seren Goch (The Red Star) is the Socialist-Republican paper set up by Plaid Gomiwnyddol Cymru (the Communist Party of Wales) & the Welsh Underground Network in 2024.
Y Seren Goch provides analysis of the dire state of Welsh and British politics, of the neoliberal decay present around us, the fight for minoritised languages, and more.
We began to provide a space for the membership of both Plaid Gomiwnyddol Cymru and the Welsh Underground Network to present our views, to allow challenge, to provoke debate and to deepen understanding of Welsh conditions. Wales, in the context of the British left, can often be an afterthought, the hinterlands of Britain where strange beasts roam – filled with nationalists who read Marx, Lenin, Connolly, who speak a language unknown, where the ‘traditional left’ reigns supreme via Welsh Labour, and its flaws are laid bare.
Wales, to us, is the most exciting part of the left in Britain, the collapse of the Corbyn Labour Party led to a thousand flowers blooming and nearly all dying – aside from in Wales. Wales, with a new Communist Party, who don’t obsess over acronyms after names and endlessly potshot at everyone around them.
This is the Wales that we want to write about, but we want to write about more than just our direct comrades.
Anyone can write for us, we in Y Seren Goch are committed to publishing a pluralistic view of Welsh politics from a socialist perspective. The aim is to take the debates out of the messenger apps, off social media, and into a public space, for all to engage in.
Are you an individual, an outcast from the disintegrating Welsh Labour? Are you in the traditional British left? A member of an insurgent Welsh force, hellbent on ending the unfair treatment of Wales? Then we want to hear from you, submit an idea, and our Pwyllgor Golygyddol will respond and help shape your article.
